Radiesse Treatments

Radiesse is an injectable implant that is a sterile, latex free, cohesive implant. The principle component of Radiesse is synthetic calcium hydroxylapatite, a biomaterial with over twenty years of use in orthopedics, neurosurgery, dentistry, and ophthalmology. The semisolid nature of Radiesse is created by suspending the material in a gel carrier that allows for easy injection as a soft tissue filling agent to raise deeper folds or lines in the skin.

The material is relatively long-lasting, averaging one to three years. Common treatment areas include deep glabellar folds, nasolabial folds, or depressed surgical scars. Radiesse does not correct fine lines or very superficial scars, which are better managed with other types of filling agents such as Restylane, or resurfacing treatments such as laser or microdermabrasion.

In preparation for injection, all makeup must be removed from the skin. A topical anesthetic is applied and occasionally a local anesthetic is injected depending upon the area of correction. A series of treatments may be necessary to build or enhance deeper defects in the skin. The cost of the material varies according to the areas to be treated.
